Volunteer Training - required for all new volunteers interested in working in the program with horses and students.  Consists of a "classroom" style presentation and discussion, as well as hands-on learning in the barn.  Upcoming training opportunities:

  • Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Monday, December 18, 2017, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Taking The Lead: New: All volunteers are encouraged to attend! UpReach is instituting a change in method for horse handling and leading, called "Taking The Lead." This horse handling/training method teaches all levels of horse handlers to partner with horses under all conditions. In this training you will learn about:

  • Herd dynamics and using clear body language
  • Horses learning desirable behaviors through desensitizing
  • Promoting less stressful environments for the horse
  • Developing trust and partnerships between human and horse
  • Leading with courage and respect

Therapeutic Driving Volunteer Training (Prerequisite - Volunteer Training): Seeking UpReach volunteers who want to learn how to harness, put a horse to the cart, use the wheelchair accessible cart, be an effective volunteer in driving lessons, and what to do in an emergency situation

Leader Work Groups (Prerequisite - Volunteer Training) Calling all current volunteers! Have you always wanted to be a leader? Are you a leader who would like to brush up on some skills? Join us for leader work groups to improve your skills. Learn what to do if a horse won't go or won't stop in a lesson, the proper way to handle aggressive behaviors, and so much more! Leader work groups are scheduled for:

Goal Attainment Scaling (G.A.S.) and Therapeutic Riding Assessment of Impact Network (T.R.A.I.N.) - UpReach is one of four therapeutic riding centers participating in a research project to better measure the benefits of therapeutic riding. Join us for an opportunity to learn more specific information regarding rider goals, an overview of the project, and how UpReach can benefit. Upcoming training dates:
